Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Thursday claimed that the number of terror activities has seen a downturn and the Indian Army has been able to foil all attempts of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT).

Speaking on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, that worsened following the revocation of Article 370, Army Chief Naravane said that the Army is maintaining pressure on terror groups.

“We have been getting inputs. We have been able to foil(Pakistan Army’s) BAT action attempts even before they have been able to launch them,” he said. Naravane also brought to attention that Pakistan will be facing immense scrutiny in Paris plenary session of the global terror-financing watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF).

Highlighting how the plenary will affect Pakistan’sactivities in Kashmir, he said, “China has also realised that they cannot backtheir all-weather friend (Pakistan) all the time. If the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) comes down heavily on them, they may have to do a rethink on their rhetoric and activities.”

FATF is a factor (in the reduction of terror activities in Kashmir valley). There are 15-20 terrorist camps inside Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir where there are around 250-350 terrorists at any time and numbers may fluctuate,” the Army Chief General added. Notably, a sub-group of the FATF on Tuesday recommended that Pakistan must continue to remain in the watchdog’s ”grey list” for its failure to check terror funding.

When asked on the health condition of the J&K hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Naravane only said security forces are geared up to take care of any situation.

Besides, he also said that there will be detailed discussions before anything is finalised on the proposed creation of a theatre command exclusively for newly-formed union territory.
